Our 2013 Garden

Early June Garden 2013Here is our potager vegetable and herb garden in early June. I will be updating with more recent pictures soon. It has taken off nicely with the addition of purple kale, swiss chard, romaine, spinach, purple leaf lettuce. We also have 2 kinds of basil, 2 kinds of tomatoes, green beans, cucumber, 3 kinds of peppers and eggplant. I have also been cutting the ends off the scallions and leeks and replanting them. they keep coming back! I am a fairly new gardener and discovering all kinds of things like that make it so fun!

I love the lime green foliage and delicate blue blooms on this speedwell. I got this at the Rocky Mountain Gardening Forum's Spring plant exchange.

Coreopsis 2013This yellow Coreopsis “tick seed” is a very vigorous perennial that has survived the last 4 years of brutal Colorado sun and drought conditions in its location in the garden.

Yellow Columbines The yellow Columbines on the side of the house have decided to take over. I am going to be digging many of these sweeties up to swap at the fall plant swap. Make room for some other pretty flowers.

Blue Bachelor Buttons

Our Bachelor Buttons are going nuts this year! They have reached a height of about 2 feet now. They do well in the dry hot Colorado weather. I have decided to add cool colors in the very front part of our garden this year. The beds closer to the house are going to be of mostly hot colors like oranges, yellows, reds and hot pinks.
