Bright Bohemian Deck Decor

Decorating the Outdoor Room

With my recent project of painting our tiny front deck, I got inspired to make it feel like an outdoor room that we can enjoy as an extension of our home. My imagination starts dreaming of rugs, moroccan style lanterns, colorful pottery and furniture, plants and pillows…The space is small, but could be so cozy. I thought I would share with you some of the outdoor rooms that are inspiring our little deck “room” makeover and the pictures of the progress of the space taking shape. I have also included some Amazon affiliate links for some of the items I am considering getting for our deck too. (we get a little commission if you decide to purchase something through the link, it helps keep the blog going, and we thank you!)

Bright Bohemian Patio Decor

This patio from thejungalow.com is so bright and bold with the mix of color and pattern.

One of the common themes and items for the spaces that inspire me the most are a rug, lots of plants in colorful pots, something hanging (like lanterns) and bright, bold color. Inside I usually tend to gravitate toward more calming tones with splashes of color. Outside however, I feel like bright color that would make me feel way over stimulated inside, is just perfect. I admire the homes of people who are able to have that raucous color indoors, but for me I need a more calming palette. Nature can be both neutral and calm or screaming loud and clear with the most saturated color.

I have some lime green pots and the deck color is now more of a terracotta color than the redwood it was supposed to be, but that’s ok. I would love to get some new seating and a table at some point, maybe something that I can paint a bright color if it is thrifted or found on craigslist. I have thought about going with bright pinks and oranges like the deck in this picture below.

The bright pink and orange palette is one I have been thinking about trying. Via decoratingyoursmallspace.com

I think adding the creature comforts of throw pillows and even some art, like sculpture, some decorative and functional furniture are all ways to make the room really feel like an extension of the indoors. I would love to include a pouf and a garden stool/table to add interest and whimsy.

Garden Stool

Love this garden stool, which looks more like a table to me. From turquoisetulipsandbliss.com

I love the world look of this garden stool, mirror as wall decor and a table on casters to move as needed. The only thing I would add to this would be an outdoor rug.

Mosaic Garden Stool

Love this mosaic garden stool found on styleathome.com

Here is a peek at the beginning stages of painting the deck. As you can see, the color turned out to be a terracotta color, and has lead me down the route of a hot pink, orange red color palette. I am still open to other ideas, so we will see! More photos to come this spring!
