Midsummer Garden

The front yard garden midsummer

Our garden this year is thriving! My neighbor generously gave us the tomato plants this spring. I was not sure what they were going to turn out like. They are all yellow this year! We have yellow cherry tomatoes, yellowish orange and huge yellow ones. We were also gifted some lemon basil from another friend that is so wonderful in asian style dishes.  Never before have I grown so much Genovese basil. The plants are so healthy and the flavor is so wonderful. Fresh pesto is a summer pleasure that if buying basil fresh it can get costly. Unfortunately I let my green beans get too tough, they matured it seemed overnight. They were tiny one minute then they suddenly, huge!

These nasturtium flowers are a vining variety that I started from seed. They are mixed colors from yellow and hot orange to a creamy pale yellow. I love the rounded leaves. The flowers are edible, though I have yet to put them in a salad this summer. New blog post idea!

This midsummer shot of the birdhouse gourd vine shows the promising blooms that at this point in the summer are growing the most adorable little gourds. There are actually two plants, the other one is now latched onto the fence. With the recent rain, it is growing by leaps and bounds. Bring on the birds!

We have lemon balm on the other side of the garden, and it is happily taking root in the garden everywhere, including this shell planter. Black eyed Susans are still coming up after 5 years of living here in Fox Cottage. The Yellow mini rose that Makayla gave me two years ago is so adorable and blooming like crazy all summer. It makes me happy to see it everyday when I walk up the front steps.

I hope you enjoyed a peek into our garden midsummer. I will be posting the late summer garden and some of the bountiful harvest we have been enjoying soon.
